Lab
Jazz Lab is a unique music class that has Music Theory, Music
Appreciation and History and Performance throughout the school year.
Students participation in Jazz Lab must master all of these elements to
succeed throughout the school year. Students
should have private instruction, be willing to listen to jazz recordings, and
be prepared to perform improv solos in performance.
Students need a music staff notebook, a notebook and should consider
the purchase of their own fakebook. Students
are graded on: 1.
Theory tests and homework assignments. 2.
Scales, Modes and chords. 3.
Basic Piano Skills. 4.
Competency on heads (written music). 5.
Improv skills 6.
Jazz Project a.
Trumpets and Trombones need mutes.
Percussionists must have a stick bag with sticks, brushes, and yarn
mallets.. These items will not be
provided by the band! I
